Anesthetic Management of Iatrogenic Esophageal Perforation

چکیده
The incidence of esophageal perforation may be increasing as endoscopic procedures are becoming a standard diagnostic technique. Other situations such as vomiting, infection, malignancies may also be associated with esophageal rupture. Presenting symptoms may be non specific but delay in accurate diagnosis carries a high morbidity and mortality. Anesthetic management is critical to survival. A case of esophageal rupture and its management is presented along with a literature review. Kewyords: Esophageal perforation, complications, pneumothorax, respiratory failure, shock.

Blind oro-(naso)-pharyngeal suction and feeding catheter intubation are very common practices in pediatric critical care. However, these simple procedures may produce unexpected complications in friable tiny patients. We encountered 3 extremely premature infants in whom cervical esophageal perforation and further submucosal excavation were caused by traumatic catheter injury and subsequently le...

BACKGROUND AND STUDY AIMS Endoscopic Vacuum Therapy (EVT) has been reported as a novel treatment option for esophageal leakage. We present our results in the treatment of iatrogenic perforation with EVT in a case series of 10 patients. PATIENTS AND METHODS An open pore polyurethane drainage was placed either intracavitary through the perforation defect or intraluminal covering the defect zone...

Perforation of esophagus in the adult is a very morbid condition with high morbidity and mortality. The ideal treatment is controversial. The morbidity and mortality rate is directly related to the delay in diagnosis and initiation of optimum treatment. The reported mortality from tre...
